I spend a lot of time reading blogs and learning from other travelers on the web, but rarely do I find myself wanting to call up the writer and hope we become besties. She could very well be my travel twin. "Travel. Paint. Repeat." is a blog by Megan Van Groll who lives a common life that many of us can relate to with work obligations, limited vacation hours and a regular sized travel budget. Her recent post How I Afford Travel - Badass trips on a not-so-badass budget is a well written, well rounded review of travel for real people. Check it out!

Travel Update

Change in travel plans is inevitable, even for a Type A planner like me. I previously mentioned that we were planning a trip to Southeast Asia, but that has now been put on hold.  Why you ask? Because we have decided to go to Huatulco, Mexico in June and New England in September. Our goal is to still make it over to Southeast Asia in early 2015, but sometimes you have to be flexible based on what comes up. In our case, these were vacations that we just couldn't pass up. Here's a sneak peak into what we will be doing and where we will be going over the next couple months.

Secrets Huatulco, Mexico

Secrets is a popular Adults Only All Inclusive Resort Company with properties throughout Mexico and the Caribbean.  We have been to their sister resort Dreams in Tulum, Mexico, so when we saw an opportunity to go to another one of their properties from Travelzoo, we jumped at it! Huatulco is a small, less touristy city on the Pacific Ocean, south of Acapulco in the state of Oaxaca . Unlike Cancun and Cabo, much of Huatulco is considered an ecological preserve and can not be built upon, allowing for pristine beaches, quiet towns and pure relaxation.

We booked a package vacation deal which includes a direct flight from LAX, chartered through Aeromexico (otherwise there are no direct flights available to purchase and flights take twice the time due to the additional stops).  The package also includes roundtrip transfers from the airport to the resort and all inclusive accommodations.  We chose to upgrade to a s 1,000 sq. ft. suite with a swim up pool (of course only so I can ensure that I can give you the best review of resort as possible, wink wink).

Come back in mid June for a full, unbiased review of the resort and the surrounding area.

New England in the Fall

At a recent fundraising event for the Junior League of San Diego, through a silent auction my husband and I bought week stay at a vacation home on Eastman Lake in New Hampshire. We decided to go with our family in September to enjoy the fall colors and explore the New England area since we've never been before.  We will be taking day trips to Vermont and Maine from New Hampshire, then spending an additional 4 nights between Boston, Providence, Rhode Island and Cape Cod. Shockingly, flights on Southwest were only about $300 roundtrip! We look forward to discovering the East Coast charm and bringing home lots of delicious goodies! Maple Syrup anyone??

Check back in October for a full review of our favorite spots.
